Recipe: Chocolate Crackles

Kevin Futamachi, our fabulous pastry chef at Roundabout Grill, shares his recipe for Chocolate Crackles, an Australian treat enjoyed by all. Kevin learned how to make these simple and yummy treats while working in the land down under!

Crackles are basically a chocolate rice krispy treat but with the volume turned up. It’s super duper easy and very kid friendly.

8 cups Rice Krispies
6 T. Cocoa Powder
3 1/4 cups Powdered Sugar
1 cup Vegetable Shortening
1 1/2 cups Nutella
1 1/2 cups Chocolate (your favorite or the best quality you can find)
Mix together the Rice Krispies, cocoa powder and powdered sugar in a bowl and set aside.
Slowly melt the shortening, nutella and chocolate over a double boiler.
Once the chocolate mixture is fully melted pour over the Rice Krispy mixture and stir until well combined.
Spoon the mixture into cupcake papers and refrigerate until firm. Enjoy!
*Variations
-I have replaced the Nutella with peanut butter on countless occasions and it’s amazing!
