Having a Spring Fling?

By Beth Bach

After this winter (especially in Reno-Tahoe), everyone is anxious to get out! It’s a great reason to celebrate your company or organization’s long first quarter of the year with a fun-filled gathering.

However, northern Nevada can be tricky in spring. If you are planning a spring event, most likely it is a great opportunity for it to be outdoors or in a tented or semi-tented setting. With unpredictable weather patterns, it is wise to always have a back-up plan. If you want a successful outdoor event that is weather-proof, plan on a tent with the option to add heaters. Keep in mind that patio heaters cannot be placed under a tent for fire hazard reasons. Wind can also be a factor. Ordering a tent with walls can make for a much more enjoyable experience for your guests.

Also, keep in mind these items are bigger ticket items. You may want to consider looking for a space with indoor and outdoor options. At Roundabout Grill, we have a patio right off of our private dining space, so you can mingle with a drink outside, then sit down inside for an enjoyable meal that is free from outside elements.

New Trends

People are all about the festival vibe these days. Music fests, craft beer fests, food & wine fests, cultural fests – they’re everywhere! You can easily leverage these concepts into your own event.

On the culinary front, offering a combination of indulgent fried foods with light healthy bites make for a fun balance. We are still seeing lots of people opting to have food stations for mingling, over seated dinners. We are seeing more stationed appetizers over passed appetizers giving your guests the feel of a bit more food that they consciously put on a plate rather then subconsciously grabbing bites off a tray. A really fun station is a soup and grilled cheese pairing. This provides guests some warm food options when the weather is “off and on.”

Colors on Point

The Pantone color of the year is a beautiful spring green, so expect to see lots of that in décor and linen choices, plus lots of greenery in centerpieces. Creative Coverings has done a great job keeping up with this. Their Pear Flora fabric plays well with this trend. Of course, summer and spring mean lots of whites and ivory tones as well.

Fresh Ideas

One way to spruce up your event is to offer varied seating. Think about providing some outdoor lounge furniture with pillows to match your event. Don’t forget lighting. Adding in a fun chandelier, cafe lighting, or up lighting in your trees can truly elevate your event.

Think about including fun games and things for your guests to do like bocce ball or cornhole. You don’t need a lot of experience to play either – some wine or cocktails will surely help, too!

Try something different by hosting an event in this spring. The season provides a nice change of pace for your guests. We hope these event planning tips will help you embrace this time of year and make it memorable for everyone.
